Lithium-Ionen-Akkus zählen zu den leistungsstärksten Akkus. Im Vergleich z.B. zu NiMH-Akkus zeichnen sie sich durch eine geringe Selbstentladung und einen höheren Energiegehalt aus. Sie unterliegen keinem Memory-Effekt und sind wartungsarm, da sie z.B. keine regelmäßige Entladung benötigen. Li-Ion Akkus haben bei richtiger Lagerung eine lange Lebensdauer, da sie haltbar sind und über eine hohe Anzahl an möglichen Ladezyklen verfügen. Anwendung finden Li-Ion Akkus in mobilen Endgeräten mit hohem Energiebedarf wie Smartphones, Notebooks, Kameras, Elektrowerkzeugen. Auch im RC-Modellbau und in der Photovoltaik finden diese Akkus Verwendung.

Praktischer Hinweis: Wenn die Kapazität unseres Lithium-Ionen Ersatzakkus deutlich höher ist als beim Original-Akku (ab 1000mAh und höher) kann der Ersatzakku schwerer, tiefer und dicker sein als der Original-Akku. Unter Umständen steht er deshalb etwas heraus.
